l was wondering how often it breaks down or the maintenance cost for each year. Also how long you owned the car and maybe the year. l love the car but have heard some bad things about them. Thanks

it is actually the crappiest of all porsches. dont buy one, crap resell value and you ll have trouble finding spare parts if it breaks down.
opt for a 928 or an old 911 model.
the reason you like it is probably its price, its cheap as hell but that is for a reason, noone wants to buy one.

My boss had one for a while. It is complete garbage. The head gasket blew at 40k miles, and the exhaust system needed to be replaced at 60k. The interior fell apart. She got $400 for it from a scrapyard after the head gasket blew for the _second time_.

This is a very unreliable car, and the repairs are incredibly expensive. A used 911 is more expensive, but the ownership cost on a 911 is lower than on a 944, because 911s are much more reliable.

It is the poor man is Porsche, so it was a mass produced car for a cheaper market than the then 911 market. It has some cheapness to it, & it is actually more volkswagen & audi inspired, but Porsche built, especially on earlier models, & almost all audi & volkswagen on the first 924's.

If u can slip into a good car, that is well kept, not driven hard, & u do not drive it like a Ferrari race car, it will be an okay car. So many buy into them expecting cheap corvettes.

l would avoid the turbo models unless u want to throw down some money. Those can be problems, & very expensive to fix. l have seen many models get the chevy conversion when it comes times to replace the motor because it can cost half as much to get a cheap reliable LS-1 or 350 motor in there, than try to mess with the turbo motor.

l was always fixing little things on the weekends. If u r not into working on stuff on the 944, u might not enjoy the car. l wished Porsche had spent a little more time on the engine engineering, but it is not the worse car, or garbage if u love a good Porsche that just needs a little extra TLC. Plus just because it is a Porsche, l would not drive it like a race car. What l would do is have good tires, & enjoy the handling with a near perfect 50-50 balance. l was able to make near 90 degree perfect turns going 50+ mph. All my other cars would drift or fish tail to do something like that. That does not work unless u have quality tires.

~The r especially negative. 944 is r not that bad. They r an aging car (technically a classic iconic 80 is cars), so some cars will need some repairs. l would shop carefully. You might find someone who has their car all fixed up--not on the down spin heading to someone is wallet. So some more searches on , & more reviews before making ur decesion.

Stay away from the turbo. Many people do not no how to drive a turbo car and they end up going way sooner than they should.

You should look for a decent 924. There at least its got a lot of VW parts and wo not hurt your wallet...well too bad.
