does it need alot of maintenance, and if so, how often and how expensive is it? I am seriously considering buying one very soon, but l need more information about the car. Any information would be helpful if you've ever owned or if you know about this kind of car. Thanks!

any car can be reliable if you are willing to learn how the car works and maintain it properly.

get a repair manual. you learn a few things there.

also try edmunds.com

944 parts are fairly expensive, just because the engine is produced by Porsche (the car itself is assembled by Audi). '83 944s have the same interior as the 924. If the seats are bad, the 911, 928, and 924 of the time have the same. If equipped, the air conditioning usually does not work nowadays due to no maintenance.

It is an old car, parts r expensive, labor is expensive, & it is not uncommon for most owners to average about $2-3g a year to properly maintain it. I've probably put about $6000 into my 86 944 over the 5 years i've owned it, & it is very reliable, but as u can see it took a lot of money to get the car properly sorted. If u do buy one, u can expect to do a major front end service (tbelt, water pump, bs belt, rollers, idler, etc) right off the bat for a hit of around $1500-2000. That is just to get u going, there will be plenty of other ways to spend money on the car after that. If you're young or do not have deep pockets, i'd pass up a 944 for something newer & more reliable, because u wo not enjoy the car much when it is sitting in ur drivewayy & u can not caugh up the money to get it fixed.

if you have to ask you should walk a way from it

the cheapest Porsche always end up the most expensive to run.

People buy 924 is & 944 is just because they r cheap & have the 'Porsche'' badge on them, the 944 is & 924 is were good till the early 90 is but thats when Porsche decreased the production volume of spare parts for the 924's, 944 is & the 968's, from then onwards is when these front engine Porsche lost all there glamor.

I'd say that u stay away from any front engined Porsche, whether it be the 928, 924, 944, 968, (this does not include the Cayenne).
