Targa typically relates to the cars roof, having targa tops, or t tops.

Two removable glass panels on each side, over the seats.

Depends on the specific car u r talking about. but both of these cars r Carrera 4 models: the first u r referring to would be the Carrera 4 Coupe, while the later would be a Carrera 4 Targa.

The Targa was originally introduced to be the convertible 911 back in the 1960s. however, due to concerns about chasis rigidity, a stylized roll bar was put in place where the B-Pillar would reside in the coupe, with a one piece removable top between it & the front windscreen. A soft rear window that could be removed was behind the bar.

After a few years, the soft rear window was replaced with a fixed glass rear window, leaving just the removable top. & creating what most people recognize as a ''Targa.'' This basic form factor was available as a Carrera 4 model on the 964 Carrera (1989-1994).

When the 993 Carrera came about, the Targa design was changed to having the same profile as the Coupe, but the entire roof section was now retractable glass. This basic design has continued forward in Targa models that have been produced since.

911, 964, 993 all had Targa Models as well as the coupe model. The car is a Carrera, & it is either a coup, or a targa, or a cabriolet. The Targa Model has a folding metal & fabric top that comes out & fit either in the front trunk area or the area behind the seat, defendant on what year model. The Targa was available in either the Carrera 4 (All Wheel Drive) of Carrera 2 (Two Wheel Drive). Hope that clears it up for you.

Paul, l think u r wrong about adding the rollbar, the rollbar was there from the beginning on the Targa. Maybe u mean that during the development they needed the rollbar to maintain the rigidity. The Cab was an invention of a guy that owns Precision Porsche in Hunting Beach, CA. l bought a car from him & read a Road & Track article about his conversion before the Porsche Cab came out. He said that he got a cease & desist letter from Porsche way back in the late '60 & they started doing the Cab themselves.
