l was wondering if 70 is Porsche 914 are fast cars.My father use to have one and it rusted completely through.l was recently looking at them and l saw that they are priced really cheap. Is this because of the rust problem? Are they bad cars?

The 914 is a quick car, & can turn in fast times with a skilled driver. but it is not a fast car. It works well due to it is balance & lightweight, but it is overall lack of power keeps it from ''fast.'' The last 914, produced in 1974, would be the best of the series, with the 2.0L engine.

The cars r quite cheap to get nowadays due first, to their age and, second, unlike the 911 or some other Porsche models, the 914 never really caught on. It was a joint venture with VW, & in Europe the cars actually were labelled VW-Porsche. something that never sat well with many Porsche enthusiasts that subsequently do not see the 914 as a ''real Porsche.'' Rust & poor condition affect these cars more than many other Porsches, since they were always less expensive than other Porsche offerings, many have not received the care of ownership that 911s or 356s commanded of their owners.

But it is an excellently balanced car, & they r very common for their age at track events (and with upgrades, r downright fast). The ''real Porsche'' version of the 914 was the 914-6, which featured the same engine as the 911S. These cars r much rarer than the regular 914, & command prices similar to 911s of the same era (and this also serves as the basic guideline for many enthusiasts when looking for upgrades for regular 914s).

There were also two cars in this series which never saw true production, with only a few prototypes existing, but the ones that would have proven to be the fastest of the bunch: the 916 - similar to the 914-6, but with a few differences, & the 914-6GT bodywork as standard; & the 914-8, using the flat 8 engine from the 908.

They were fast back then, but compared to todays cars, they are not that fast.

They are not bad cars. They are very reliable, but expensive to maintain.

914 is almost not a Porshe, but Volkswagen. Its a good car, yes, l just do not like it. And you will got hard time is you need body part. You better look for 912 or 911 in the 70 is . You will find not expensive , easy to repair, and by the way , wonderful car.
If you are a collector, take look on the 356,good car, but much hazardous.( Older and more expensive than the 912 or 911,from 66 /75 )
