Yes, they own part of VW(which owns Audi, Lambo, Bentley, and Bugatti). There is no 2008 Carrera GT. I'd take an F430 over any Porsche.

You sir, r agreeable.
Any Ferrari is all flash & grunt with no organic features. What l mean is, Porsches r by nature a very natural car to drive; u can feel the texture of the road through the wheel, u can feel the engine engage when the pedal is hammered, & u can feel confident that no one looking at u in ur car will think u r a pomp. Ferrari's, yes, r fast, but what is performance if u can not *feel* the car.
Nothing, my friend, nothing.

Its kind of, but part of it is owned by the Porsche family. Piech is the owner of VAG and also the nephew of Ferdinand Porsche, so is also part of the Porsche family, so he also has shares of Porsche.

Porsche is an independent company. They r publicly traded on the German stock exchange, though all traded shares r non-voting shares, & all told comprise less than 50% of the company. Majority ownership & all voting shares r entirely owned by the Porsche family, making it a similar situation to BMW.
Porsche has long standing ties with VW with a number of members of the Porsche family having held key board positions with VW over the years, & has worked on a number of projects with them (VW owning Audi among many other brands). Porsche currently owns 31% of VW, making it likely that they will leverage that relationship in the future for similar cross development when it makes sense (such as the Cayenne/Toureg development).
Aside from outright partnerships, Porsche has had working relationships with almost all manufacturers, either doing engineering work (there is a reason why Harley Davidson piston & clynder heads look & sound so much like Porsche's), or manufacturing (though this was mostly in the mid to late 90s when Porsche is sales were low & the extra factory time was used in building cars for BMW & Mercedes).
As for the Porsche vs. Ferrari? l am huge fans of both cars, though l have spent more time behind the wheel of Porsches. As such l have developed great respect for their design & reliability, though turning a few laps in a Ferrari is an absolute joy, & they r fantastic cars to behold. For a GT class car or street car though, I'd definitely lean towards Porsche (but it is a slight margin).

Porsche is still privately owned. No company owns them or can buy them. They are buying VW. VW was protected by the law and no one was allowed to buy them except Porsche because VW and Porsche were both created by the same man-Ferdidnand Porsche. They already control VW and own over %50 of VW.
l would also take a Porsche. My favorite car is the Porsche Cayman S.
