Def 911 turbo or GT3RS the 944 isnt a real car. its a reject that got loose from the factory. and should be scrapped on sight as a favour to the car.

Nine-one-one.here - was not the 944 seen as the Porsche for commoners - remember seeing bundles of jazzed up - and l suspect second-hand 944 is (some with personal number plates.which gives away the class of the owner, methinks) when l first moved to the West Midlands.
The 911 is the godfather, is it not - as it keeps - or raises - it is value throught the years, whereas the 944 ages quickly.

the 944 was the commercial spin off of the 988. that was a monster car & at the time met the rules for ''production'' car that was suitable for racing.

Unfortunately u cant sell 988 is as they are, in fact, one-off racing demons..but Porsche bent the rules like everone else did.

the 944 was so successful that the 924 was spun off. with even less performance & a lower price.

but, if u wanted, u could tune them up with lots of aftermarket equipment & beat the pants off all the british & american Iron laying around.no one in the UK or US had picked up on production level suspension engineering.

Woud l buy one..sure for my daughter,
wer

Depends on ur definition of ''better''.

Unless the 911 is really old (like late 1960 is to late 1970 is old) the 911 is going to be the ''faster'' car. For what it is worth, I'd even rather have an older 911 than any year or type of 944 regardless of which is faster because l personally like old 911s.

The 911 has always been rear-engined while the 944 is a more conventional front-engine, rear-drive setup. There were some 944 Turbos out there for a while that were pretty quick, but most 911s will still eat the 944 is lunch on a racetrack.

911 without doubt. It will cost you, but your money is fairly safe. If you think about a 944, then you would be well advised to spend a bit more and get the 968, that is not a bad car at all.

It has to the 911 for that really is a sports car. The 944 was a mismatch.

Depends on what u r looking for & what u consider to be ''better.'' There is also the issue that ''911'' could encompass cars from the mid 1960 all the way up to the present, & ''944'' could cover cars from the early 1980s to the 90s. so the answer here will also depend on which specific models u wish to compare.

The ''true'' 911. or at least cars that fell under the ''911'' project number with Porsche, only ran through 1989 (with the 964 coming after that, then the 993, 996, & the current 997. though all have been marketed as ''Carrera,'' & in some cases, as ''911'' as well).

Compared to similar model year cars, the 944 was a MUCH more modern car than the 911. It was better balanced, & had better ergonomics (ie, no heater controls located on the floor). But while it had many plusses in it is design, it was the entry level model, & it lacked the power & overall performance of the 911. The 951 (944 Turbo) did offer similar or better performance out of the box though.

Again, looking at similar years, the 911 was quite antiquated compared to the 944, but it was a 911 & in the eyes of many, the very things that defined a Porsche. It was more of a challenge to drive fast, & for many, the drawbacks in design only added to the character. & then there was the fact that it was more powerful.

But, as the 911 series has continued far beyond the 944 (or the 968, which replaced it in the last couple years of production), if u compare a current offering to the older 944, u will find a car that is better in every possible measure (though also much more expensive than an older 944). But the 944 is a good car, can be very quick on the track with a good driver, & they r fun to drive. The biggest negative that will usually be brought up with them is that they r not a 911. though for many, this will also be it is biggest plus. If u r really trying to decide between the two, u need to decide if u really want a 911. if u do, u might like a 944, but u will always wish u had a 911. If u do not have such strong feelings, u might discover u greatly prefer a 944.

The fastest of the 944 models will be the various 951s - with the Turbo S representing the most desirable. The 944S2 would be the quickest of the normally aspirated models (968s deserve mention too. though personally, l find both the 968 & the 944S2 to be heavy enough to detract from some of the 944 is best characteristics).

Well, 911 is the staple of the porsche lineup.plus they allow for more leg room, being rear engine and all. l am 6'7 and can fit in a 911. My father is 6'0 and has trouble getting in and out of the 944. Plus, 944 is are cheap, and weak.go anywhere, and you can pick one up for 6K.people are dying to get rid of them.

l am a racer. l have heard that 911 is r tricky to handle (My dad has been racing A-Mod Solo 1 cars since the 70's). l have also heard that water cooled front engined cars r a whole different beast & not as much fun to drive. l am a 914 racer. The 914 has been a brilliant platform to build a first class racecar upon, especially on a limited budget. In the 70 is & 80's, it was blasphemy to trade engines & hardware, but now, some of the most powerfull supercars in the world begin with the 914 platform.
In Porsche club racing, the 924 turbo & 944 r popular beginer cars because they r cheap to build. A true racer will go anywhere He has to to build a car to go racing. l would race a 944 in a second, but l do not like front engined cars.

l think you should get the 911 if you do not really care of the price. But if you do care about speed and still have a good price, get the 944.

Good Luck!

definatley a 911 and if you're going to get one maybe you should get a GT2

l have one of each. I've driven both on the track - like Watkins Glen.
The 911 is a better car in most respects. It would be good to be more specific, as others have stated.
For the same money, like $5k, you might be better off with a 944, and that would probably be a better, more reliable car than a $5k 911.
Ask the questions with more constraints/assumptions and you will get a better answer

/ Actually, the Porsche 944 S is quite fast.

The 944 is a classic styled car that will become quite a collectors item very soon. It is inexpensive to purchase and maintain, and easy to handle, and enter and exit.

The wide flared quarters are great looking, and acommodate wide tires which look sporty, and hug the road on the turns.

911 is are a dime a dozen, but the 944 is unique.
