1967 Porsche 912.l have a Vanagon engine and since Porsche engines must be made of gold, l was thinking that I'd go this route.The dimensions seem right.Flywheel?Mount? Blah, Blah.?!?
The current engine has thrown a rod.Not a cheap fix unfortunately.Car is far from original so this mod wo not really change value.Any Web reference for this mod?I've searched a little but maybe someone else has a better source?
The 914 used the Vanagon engine.This is a 912 which is the same body as the 911 with the exception of the engine and some other smaller details.Thanks though.

It may ''fit'' dimensionally, but the mounts are likely to be different and will require extensive modification. Understand your reasoning (the ''porsche = gold'' bit), but l doubt it will be worth the effort. Can the original engine be repaired? That would usually be the best choice, despite the horrifying bill.

The ''last'' 912 is did in fact use the type 4 motor, the main difference was the cylinder heads. l would imagine the two are interchangable, but you would need to double check the engine mounts/clutch mechanism etc. It might be better to do as the other fella said, is to get the original motor repaired.
Ultimately it might affect the resale value of the car if a true ''Porschefile'' was wanting to buy it!

Since it is a 912, and not a 911, you really wo not be de-valuing the car much.

If you have the original engine, l would keep it though, since someone may want it at a good price.
