l wonder what upgrades you can do to make a regular 944 fast (turbo, nos, chips,...) and how much these upgrades would run me. Thanks. Matt

Adding a turbo to an NA 944 would be quite expensive & probably more than its worth. Buying a new car would be cheaper. Less expensive upgrades to improve throttle response would be a new throttle cam from Weltmeister, takes about 5 minutes to install, & a K&N air filter. Once u start modding the engine, ur bank account will suffer especially if u blow something up. You can pick up a rebuilt race ready engine for about $4500 online or plan to spend that much to rebuild it yourself. It was never really meant to be a fast car, be happy that u own a porsche that handles nicely & save ur money for when it breaks down.

Depending on ur level of compromise, reduce the weight of the car wherever possible. Also, allow the engine to breath better with a low restriction air filter & a performance exhaust. The cost of these mods is depending on whether u buy an off-the-shelf system or come with ur own. l did the above & chipped my car [a 968] & it made a noticeable difference.

The best advice is to check out some of the many sites dedicated to P-cars & the 944, [ie renlist etc]. There u will find what works & doesn't.

Do not molest or 'pimp' your car, you will save yourself a big heachach if you just buy a 944 Turbo.
