Wondering what you thought of a 87 porsche 944 as a first car

im guessing your 16ish, if it is your first car, you dont need one, especially an 87 its old. probally needs work, has lots of miles. my opinion not worth it

Unless it was owned by a real good maintaining owner previous. Yes.
It was not my first, but l purchased a 1987 Turbo and it ran perfect, until l stupidly allowed my son to drive it,out of sympathy, because his wife would make him walk to work.

l should have like him walk too!!!! He tore it up. But prior to that l never had a problem and if you are a tyrant on cars, leave the older cars to someone who can take care of it in it is old age.

Pretty old unless it has been taken really good care of. l would not fool with it.

unless you're prepared to pay Porsche maintenance, which is expensive, l would not consider it. Just because you're able to afford to buy a used one now, it does not mean you can afford to fix it. Porsche is not a do it yourself car for a first timer.

944s are tricky..they are cheap to buy, they handle great, so they are seductive. But they are a maintenance-intensive car and unless you can spend $200 a month on average to keep in on the road, do not do it.

If you doubt this, go ask a repair shop the cost of a) a new clutch for your 944 b) a water pump

It is a 20 year old car. l would offer that even if it is a one owner, perfectly maintained car, u r going to have lots of repair bills to pay.

A 20 year old vintage car is not for those looking for a first car. It is for those who has plenty of time & money & looking for a project.

Basically unless u r very wealthy & have another daily driver on top of this 944 hobby car, u will find it very very frustrating. It will break down often & u will either pay a lot for someone else to repair the car or u will spend a lot of time sourcing parts & then doing the repairs yourself.

In anycase, the 944 will likely not be a reliable daily driver but instead would be a lovely weekend cruising car.
