l have never test driven a Cayenne, so l cant compare the ride to the Mercedes but l can say that on paper the MB looks a little better.
The MB has better gas mileage & MB is offering discounted interest rates right now - if u would be financing the vehicle this may help. The main difference l see btwn the two is that the Cayenne has more horsepower.
But for me, an extra 22hp is not more important than how much l am going to have to pay to fill it up.
Bottom line - u r sooooo lucky that u r able to be able to afford either one of those vehicles.

The Porsche has the REAL goods for the offroad as well, whereas, MBZ decided to make a unibody, carlike frame for the new ML.for posers.

If you want the fastest SUV in the world(at 171mph), then get the Porsche. If you want comfort.get the Benz.

The cayenne is a better car in pretty much every way, shape and form.

Its far more reliable (mercedes are pretty unreliable nowadays), its more presitigious, it rides just as good, is faster, drives better, handles better, stops better, etc etc.

The M class is a pretty crappy SUV, which people just buy because it says mercedes on it. Id take a 4runner over one.

Porsche Cayenne is the best & l have the 2005 Posche cayenne Turbo S which hits 60 in 5 seconds will do 175 mph & is way better then the M class but lets take it both of them might have all the toys tht an off roader need but they r not very good off roaders because when it comes to a huge rock piece the whole under body gets scratched if u want a real off roader then go for the Legendary Range Rover but still l would never sell my Porsche Cayenne Turbo S cos its my fav & is the worlds fastest.

Porsche Cayenne - hands down. Have you driven both? What do you like better?

Here is the thing, these two cars r completely different monsters. Unarguably, both r excellently built for the purpose they seek to serve. The ML Mercedes ( l will speak about the outgoing model) is a very smooth & safe car. It has a lot of luxuries but not that many u would expect from a Mercedes, especially when buying the 500, or the AMG 63. The computer based computer embedded next to the tachometer can be a pain to use due to its complicatedness. Both cars r very quick, specifically the AMG version, which boasts 503 horses & is mated with an AMG air suspension which allows the driver to set its stiffness & simultaneously the height of the car. A less sporty version of this suspension is an option for the non-AMG ML's. Truth be told, even in sport mode, the cars r not as sporty as a Cayenne or a BMW X5 4.8is. Also, the steering is very smooth which although is good for everyday driving, it can be rather annoying when u want to drive the car a little harsher. It lacks feel & involvement for the driver.
Now, the Cayenne is a Porsche. That should say a lot by itself. It has excellent ride quality & can manage very well off-road. But it is on the road that this car shows what it is is really made of. It handles & drives like a sports car, something very hard to get with an SUV, even with an AMG version of the ML. The interior of the Cayenne is very simple but still amazingly luxurious with tons of convenience features. Though, l got to say, that Porsche went wrong with the exterior. Sharing the same wheel-base with the Volkswagen Touareg is not a bad thing & it is very common amongst related motor companies to share technologies, but the design of the Cayenne is only distinguished by its front fascia & rear end. Thus, if u remove those u will see a Touareg, which is not that pleasing when u paid to get a Porsche.

It is a tough call. The Cayenne is getting rather old whereas the ML has been around since late 2005 & wo not change for a long time, thus making it fresher. It is all up to what you're looking for in a car.
Hope l helped, good luck with ur choice.

you know what? if you want an suv buy one. if you want a sports car buy one. a sports car/suv will always be a compromise. the jeep srt8 cherokee SMOKES a cayenne turbo and any amg benz KILLS a regular cayenne so decide what it is you want. none of the super fast suv is are worthy of any off road status so get specific and roll with it baby!
