My dads currently got a Audi RS4 but is thinking of getting a new Porsche 997 911 Turbo. He was running through the option list and he, nor I, knew what the Ceramic Brake Discs. They are a £5,000/£6,00 option and wasnt going to fork out that sort of money untill he really knew what they are. There supposed to be ''Fade Free'' Is this True? If anyone knows anything about them in great detail please write back P.S He has spoken to a Dealer about them

ceramic brake parts are usually better because they are more durable they help you stop better and dont get wasted as regular convinient pads they are usually just brake pads cuz as far as the brake system they rely on brake pads, caliper, disc rotor or drum rotor they are the things that help you stop good luck on your selection

They stop the car a little faster, wear less under heat (as brakes can get very hot) O yeah and they look pretty

They have a number of advantages actually. The main thing u have to realize is that brakes work by trasforming motion into heat through the process of friction. The energy of the moving car has to go somewhere. Your brakes convert the energy of the cars motion into heat. The greater the capacity of a braking system to do this, the more effective it will be. Ceramic brakes have a tremendous capacity to absorb & dissipate heat. They r also much lighter than cast iron, weighing as much as 50% less. They also resist abrasion, which means that will last ALOT longer. Normal cast iron rotors wear out eventually & need to be replaced. Ceramic dics last possibly as much as 4 times as long as standard brakes. If ur father plans on taking his Porsche to any track days & racing it, Ceramic brakes will be a worth while investment. If he just drives it on public roads & does not need race ready performance from his brakes, the standard cast iron brakes r probably good enough.

Carbon ceramic brakes do have a number of advantages. First is weight. Theyre about half the weight of steel rotors, which is a huge difference in both unsprung & rotating mass.
They also r fade free. That being said, In my 996 GT2 with hoosiers (racing tires), l recently switched to steel rotors (the PCCB ones were dieing on me, & theyre hideously expensive), & l have yet to get any fade. The fade issue would only come into play in rather long races with very hard braking.
They also do wear extremely well, but the cost of running them is still far more than steel brakes. instead of an 8 thousand dollar set of ceramic rotors, l bought some performance friction (awesome brakes) rotors for about 350 bucks a piece.
The last upside to the ceramics is the awesomely linear pedal feel. In hard braking its just totally linear stopping power. Steel rotors u usually have to do a hard initial stomp to generate more heat, then slowly let off a bit to get maximum braking.
If youre not doing significant track use, dont even bother with them. If u are, Im still not sure l would. Theyre awesome, just not 8 grand a set awesome.
And tell him to consider a 996 GT2. Much more raw/awesome car. its like the turbo is twisted, insane cousin.
