S means sport, its just a bit quicker.

4s is four wheel drive

no such thing as 2s.

There are only about four or five carrera models

There is no such thing as Carrera 2s.
The 911 Carrera has 325HP & has a top speed of 177mph. 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. $73,500.

The 911 Carrera S has 355HP & a top speed of 182mph. 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. $83,800.

The 911 Carrera 4 is the same as the 911 Carrera, except it has AWD & it is slower. 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. top speed 174mph. $79,400.

The 911 Carrera 4s is the same as the 911 Carrera S, in terms of power. 0-60 in 4.6 seconds & top speed of 179mph.

the carrera is the basic form of 911
the the S models stand for sport & they have more power & the engine is bigger 3.8L & the 911 has an option on the S models power kit gives an extra 33 brake horsepower & there is the sport chrono package plus which gives u a stop watch & a sport button
the 4 models basicly mean four wheal drive 4s means S model with four wheel drive
the targa is a carrera that comes come with a giant sun roof instead of the small option one on the basic ways to identify it r the black roof & the targa sign in the back the giant roof is meant to give a convertible feel without the convertible top like the carrerathe targa comes in S,4and4Smodels
the GT models the GT models consist of the GT1,GT2,GT3
GT1:is a super car that was made in 1996 for racing & they made aroad version in1997
GT2:is a track day 911 that comes with a roll cage as option & bucket seats as an option this is a 911 with a turbo body & fixed wing specially made for it it is the most powerful & the fastest of the new 911s
GT3:is a track day 911 that comes with the same options as the GT2 but has the body of a carrera with the 911 body kit aero cup kit option ans the third strongest & fastest of the911s
the turbo has uniqe body compared to the others it has an actual wing spoiler at the back that can be retracted for the car unlike the basic spoiler which is a retractible grill that gives downforce which is good it has air in take on the side like middle engine air intakes except its a rear engine & the engine is twin-turbo charged to bring out 480 brake horsepower
the cabriolet models r carreras in all forms & the turbo model as a convertible

hope that helps
oyeah iwould have the carrera2S ive drivin one & its great & its not the most expensive

There r already a few , so l will answer the questions they havent.

The best porsche really is, despite what anyone else says, the GT3 RS. What makes it the best is that porsche could take that production car, strip what luxerys r there & turn it into the cup car they race internationally. So u know that u arent driving a compromised car, but it is still very usuable, for exmaple it still has a leather/alcantara interior, sat nav, air con, everything.

You r right in saying the R8. It is Porsche main competitor. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage was also designed specifically to be able to beat a carrera round the Nurburgring, but it cant.

So the R8 is the 911 is main competitor. The R8 is a stunningly beautiful car, poised, powerfull, & just oozing with balance & chassis stability. It will really give a GT3RS a run for its money.

But l will tell u why the GT3RS is so much better. As mentioned before the GT3 RS is the homologation (means they have to make certain # of cars so they can race) car for Porsche. So as mentioned before u know that u r in a real car, not a brilliant once off supercar by a company that builds Sedans. Also the 911 model has a 44 year history, an amazing story, repeatadly pulling the comapny out of debt. It won lemans, the targa florio, & nurburgring endurance races hundreds of times. When u buy a 911, youre buying a piece of history, a racing heritage, a driving & racing machine that has been honed & polished over 44 years. What can u say about the R8?

As u r a new Porsche-phile, l will give u some links to pics of all the important models, check them out, theyre brillaint photos & bring out the best in the respective cars.

The Current GT3

The current turbo

And previous generation (GT2, which is just a suped up turbo)

Hope all that helps, whats essential to understand is that there a re a lot of models, but they r all esentially variants of the follwing three:
Carrera: comes in 8 variants (4 or 2 wheel drive, convertible or coupe)
GT3: GT3, or GT3RS
Turbo: Turbo or GT2, the GT2 is as to the turbo as the GT3RS is to the GT3.
