l wanna replace the 944 Shifter boot on my car. Any hints. the center shift pattern diagram seems to move but l do not wanna break it. Is there a special tool required or something?

you have to sit on it.. There are 6 screws under the car,, you need to take those off to losing up the top side..

Call a mechanic.. Which is much better than doing it yourself. That is a Porsche man.. Call an expert...Why do it all yourself.. You can afford the car, then why not get a mechanic that is well known in fixing and upgrading porshe..

you just want to change the ''boot'' right?

on the console, thers a shift boot surrond, thats what holds down the boot, they are kinda flimsy, so be careful when taking it out. the knob does not spin off, it sits on a square rod, that runs to the torque tube. There is a pin that holds the knob on, it will come out hard so watch where it flys. then pull off the knob then boot.
