has any one done a European delivery on a Porsche?l am from the USA and like to know how the experience was and how to do one.Thanks!

l did it for Mercedes. l also own a Porsche & am quite familiar with their program (but did not get the opportunity to do it for that car).

Anyway, if u can do a European delivery, it is fantastic & l would highly recommend it from an enjoyment & memory point of view.

Both Mercedes & Porsche r picked up in Stuttgart, Germany & have similar programs.

l assume u know about the program. In summary, u order & prepay for ur car from a local dealer (you can haggle for it, just like any other car). a couple of months later, based on a date that is mutually agreeable to u & porsche, u pick up the car in Stuttgart at the factory. The best time to order is early in the model year (say October - December) & to plan for delivery in January through June.

The tour of the factory will be very memorable & is an all day event - the conclusion of which u r given the keys to ur personalized & custom manufactured car.

Porsche provides u with 2 weeks of zero deductible all inclusive insurance for u to drive ur car around Europe. After u r done with the car, u drop it off at any one of a dozen locations in Europe that they will provide (i.e., u do not have to return it to Stuttgart, u can drop it off in Paris). From there, they take care of everything. & several weeks later, it is delivered to u at the dealer u ordered it from. It is neat to pick up the car at the dealership - as it will have a sticker on it with ur personal name on it.

To be clear: the car will be 100% USA legal & in fact is just the same as u buying the car at ur local dealer. The process does not require u to worry about how to ship or pay extra for importing the car - all of that is handled by Porsche. When u turn it in to the designated drop off location, the car is transported back to Porsche where it is reintegrated into the USA delivery system. so it ends up on the same ship as other Porsches headed to the USA.

There r a couple of disadvantages to this process:

1- You have to allow time to get the car. (can not have instant gratification). From the time u order until u have the car in the USA is 3 to 6 month process.

2- You have to prepay for the car before u leave the USA & l do not think u can get financing for it at a bank ( l believe u can finance it through Porsche however).
